Basic Paddlers With the Beaver Canoe Club
April
30 (evening) May 3 (day) and 10 (day)

Contact Carey Robson, Training Director at 604-437-1140 or Carey@CanoeBC.ca to reserve or ask questions.

If you see yourself gliding serenely across a glassy lake or heading into the wilderness for a long camping trip, you are gravitating toward recreational canoeing.  If your dream is to slip between rocky islands, watching herons flying overhead and starfish glimmering through turquoise waters, you probably have already decided on ocean touring.  Or maybe you know that whitewater paddling's heady blend of excitement and control, amidst the power and natural beauty of great rivers, is your thing.

IT ALL STARTS WITH A BASIC PADDLERS COURSE.

You'll learn or refine your strokes, add manoeuverability to your boat, develop a feel for the water, practice rescues in a non-threatening environment.  It all adds up to being able to paddle where you want, when you want, with whom you want.

THE BEAVER CANOE CLUB OFFERS THE BEST TRAINING AROUND.

Taught by certified lakewater instructors in a ratio that never exceeds seven students to one teacher, you'll do an evening of theory, and two days on the water.  What to wear paddling and how to outfit yourself inexpensively; a comparison of gear: paddles, boats and life jackets (pfds); information on no-trace camping, hypothermia, safety standards and more.  On the water you'll learn propulsion and manoeuvering strokes:  forward, back, pry, draw, sweep and the J.  You'll practice canoe carries to minimize back strain, learn how to tie canoes to car, and discover safe, easy ways to get into a boat from shore or water.

AND THE PRICE IS RIGHT:  Free if you are a member – adult memberships only $20!

$20 for the full course AND a membership in the club which leads to weekly trips, holiday paddles, and further free instruction.  Monthly newsletters and canoeing-related presentations are all part of the package.

Canoes may be rented from Middleton's Boats (604-984-8020).   Mention it when you register.
